Sebastian Cox Secures Acquittal of Teenage Boy Charged with Sex Offences in Unisex Bathrooms Following Trial

22 January 2025

Sebastian Cox has successfully secured not guilty verdicts for a youth client accused of committing sex offences against six schoolgirls in the unisex toilets of an Essex school. The teenage boy faced allegations from several teenage girls concerning forced sexual acts, unwanted touching and an offence concerning penetrative activity. The incidents were all said to have occurred in the school’s unisex toilets during school hours. The defendant denied that these incidents had taken place at all.

Prior to charge, the case attracted press attention and engendered comment on social media from prominent figures concerning the safety of unisex bathrooms.

After a contested trial, the Youth Court was unable to be sure that the alleged sexual acts had taken place and the defendant was acquitted.

Sebastian was instructed by Caroline Woodley of OBW Law Solicitors.
