Wayne Cleaver & David Baird
have Concluded the Prosecution of a Highly Accomplished Head Teacher for Serious Sexual Offences

14 August 2025

The trial concerned multiple offence of historic sexual abuse against a child aged 5-12 years. The defendant sought to deploy a veneer of outward respectability as a fundamental plank of his defence. He sought to use his own professional standing to deflect the jury from the serious allegations proven against him. He was convicted of all counts, including Rapes of a Child Under 13, the jury seeing beyond his presentation of high moral rectitude. He is to be sentenced at a later date.

The trial attracted widespread national media coverage: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c2l7xe1k185o
