Richard Christie KC and Terence Woods Represent the Crown in Murder Trial at Luton Crown Court

16 July 2025

Richard Christie KC and Terence Woods successfully secure the conviction of N S for murder following a 16 day trial at Luton Crown Court.

This was an unusual case in which the Defendant sought to claim that the deceased had propositioned him for sex against a background where it was known to the defendant that the deceased was on the Sex Offender’s Register for life. He claimed a loss of control triggered by the deceased’s behaviour which was aggravated by a claim of years of sexual abuse perpetrated on him by members of his own family. This meant that this had to be disproved as well as proving the main offence of murder.

The Crown alleged that both sets of allegations were false and the real motive was a demand for money that was rebuffed leading to him strangling the victim both manually and with a ligature. Sentence has been adjourned until September.

Richard and Terence were instructed by CPS Thames and Chiltern.
