Kuljeet Dobe’s Client Acquitted of Coercive and Controlling Behaviour After 11 Day Trial

10 September 2025

Kuljeet Singh Dobe Criminal and Financial Crime Barrister

Kuljeet’s client was charged with coercive and controlling behaviour between 2015 and 2025. The Crown alleged that his client had created a climate of fear by controlling his partner’s spending, isolating her from her friends and family and constantly querying who she was messaging and why. The complainant accepted in cross-examination that the relationship with the defendant weakened in 2023 after he refused to choke her during sexual intercourse. She also admitted a 6-month relationship with another man during 2024. She accepted that she did not tell her mum, sister or police about the affair. She conceded that she had lied to the jury the previous day when she said that the male was a close friend, “like a brother”.

The jury acquitted unanimously after 3 hours of deliberation.
