Dr Andreas O’Shea & Kuljeet Dobe Secured the Acquittal of an Iranian Woman (RP) Charged with Conspiracy to Facilitate the Entry for Gain of Asylum Seekers Into the UK

11 November 2021

Dr Andreas O’Shea & Kuljeet Dobe secured the acquittal of an Iranian woman (RP) charged with conspiracy to facilitate the entry for gain of asylum seekers into the UK.

RP was alleged to have organised the passage of asylum seekers from Calais to Dover on boats across the English Channel during summer 2020. The defence case was that she was not involved and that she was in fact herself a vulnerable asylum seeker fleeing religious persecution in Iran. After a 4 week trial, the jury took 2 and half hours to deliver unanimous verdicts of Not Guilty.

Dr O’Shea’s command of international treaties was deployed to good effect. Counsel were instructed by Ayeh Nowroozi and Miles Herman.
