Asylum Seekers Found Not Guilty of Conspiracy to Handle Stolen Cars

27 February 2023

Henry Hughes and Dr Andreas O’Shea, instructed by Romana Khan at Solomons Solicitors, successfully secure the unanimous acquittal of 2 asylum seekers for the offence of conspiracy to handle stolen goods. They were found at the premises of a warehouse where stolen vehicles were being dismantled for parts.

The Syrian migrants were recruited by a major criminal enterprise chopping up and disposing of hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of cars. They were made to work in appalling and unsafe conditions on terms which gave absolute discretion to their employers on the terms of their employment. Their co-defendant, defended by counsel from other chambers was convicted of the offence.
