Kuljeet Dobe has secured an acquittal for his client following a four-week trial at Cambridge Crown Court. The client had faced charges of wilful neglect and cruelty towards her two children.
The Crown alleged that the client had neglected her children by failing to stop physical abuse and neglect by a co-parent, her co-defendant, during the Covid pandemic.
The client maintained that she had been acting under duress of circumstances (a rarely used defence) and was subjected to the same campaign of abuse and mistreatment as her children. This included an acid attack by her co-defendant which blinded her and left her with horrific injuries. The jury unanimously acquitted the client in less than 3 hours. The co-defendant was convicted on all counts and awaits sentence.
Kuljeet was instructed by Sunjay Versani and Karen Issacs of Duncan Lewis Solicitors.
