Hotel Convicted of Allowing Unsafe Food on the Market

A restaurant customer with a nut allergy was hospitalised after eating a cake with nuts in it at a leading London hotel. The hotel pleaded that it had exercised all reasonable precautions and due diligence. Dr Andreas O’Shea, instructed by Nicola Griffiths at City of Westminster Council, successfully prosecuted the company running the hotel. The hotel was fined £50,000 and the customer was awarded £5,000 in compensation.
