Henry Hughes & Emily Griffiths Successfully Secure Acquittal in Attempted Murder and s.18 GBH Trial Before the Central Criminal Court

Henry Hughes and Emily Griffiths have successfully secured an acquittal for their client following an eight-week trial at the Central Criminal Court. The client had faced charges of Attempted Murder, s.18 Grievous Bodily Harm and Violent Disorder.
The Crown had alleged that the defendant, who was present at the scene of a stabbing in Canning Town in March 2025, was guilty of attempted murder under the doctrine of joint enterprise / secondary liability. The entire incident was caught on CCTV footage.
The client was of effective good character and owned a jewellery business in Central London. He maintained that he had been in the wrong place at the wrong time. After deliberating for over 26 hours, the jury acquitted him of attempted murder and s.18 GBH. He was the only one of the six defendants present at the site of the stabbing to be acquitted on both of these charges.
The client was convicted of violent disorder and granted bail pending sentence in November, whereas every other defendant was remanded in custody.
