Elisabeth MacDermott
Elisabeth joined Chambers in July 2026 as a probationary tenant. She regularly prosecutes and defends a range of publicly and privately funded criminal matters in the Crown Court, Youth Court and Magistrates Court. She acts in a wide range of criminal matters, including serious and general crime and private driving matters. In 2025 she represented a defendant who was charged with an offence of stalking involving serious alarm or distress. Despite calling the complainant up to 30 times a day the jury returned a not guilty verdict on all counts within 31 minutes. She also recently represented a defendant with significant vulnerabilities at an Appeal Against Conviction. Although the complainant and independent witness gave consistent accounts with each other, the defendant’s conviction was overturned.
Elisabeth is also regularly instructed to defend Registrants in front of the Nursing and Midwifery Council. During a two-week NMC substantive hearing she persuaded the panel during Stage 1 submissions to find allegations against the midwife not proved. The midwife faced 7 allegations of dishonesty, which were of a serious nature, with the NMC seeking for the Registrant to be struck off the Register. Previously Elisabeth represented a midwife during a four-week NMC substantive hearing, in which the midwife accepted 39 separate allegations, which resulted in a 3-months suspension instead of the Registrant being struck off the Register. Elisabeth also regularly prosecutes police misconduct matters on behalf of the Metropolitan Police Service. She has also been instructed by Transport for London in Taxi Licencing Appeals.
In 2017 Elisabeth was awarded the Hon. Sir Peter Bristow Scholarship by Middle Temple, allowing her to work as a stagiaire at the European Court of Justice for both Judge Christopher Vajda KC’s and Advocate Eleanor Sharpston KC’s cabinet.
