Cases

Criminal Defence

R v RR – Angelina successfully defended RR who was charged with conspiracy to supply class A drugs in a multi-handed drug conspiracy. The defendant was one of thirteen defendants across two trials. The evidence was voluminous and the prosecution case was heavily dependent on cell site and communications data to prove the conspiracy. After a seven week trial, the defendant was unanimously acquitted by the jury.

R v GC – Angelina successfully represented GC on appeal. He initially received a sentence of three years at Basildon Crown Court for breach of restraining order. It was successfully argued that the Crown Court Judge started at too high a sentence and the sentence reduced to time served.

R v DW – Angelina successfully defended DW charged with burglary. The prosecution alleged that DW had entered an address in the middle of the night and stole items from within the address. The issue was identification and witnesses were cross-examined on issues of ID and breaches of PACE. The prosecution successfully applied to admit DW’s bad character for burglary offences from 1978 – 2017. Following a three day trial, the defendant was unanimously acquitted.

R v PD – Angelina successfully defendant PD charged with sexual assault. PD was a youth alleged to have sexually assaulted a female (youth) outside a bowling alley at night. He raised the defence of consent. After trial, he was acquitted by the youth bench and retains his good character.

R v TB – Angelina represented TB at sentence for the offence of perverting the course of justice. TB was subject to a Suspended Sentence Order at the time of sentence and whilst the perverting the course of justice offence pre-dated the Suspended Sentence Order there was a very real risk of immediate custody. Following mitigation, TB received a further Suspended Sentence Order.

R v KK – Angelina defended KK charged with cultivation of cannabis. After drafting an application to dismiss the prosecution reviewed their case and offered no evidence.

R v TH – Angelina represented TH at sentence for two offences of theft from his employer to a value in excess of £8,000. TH had a previous conviction for theft from employer but following mitigation was sentenced to a Suspended Sentence Order.

Criminal Prosecution

R v SN – Angelina prosecuted an appeal against conviction at Peterborough Crown Court in respect of one offence of stalking. There were five separate incidents that made out the allegation. The defendant denied all of those behaviours. The conviction was upheld.

R v PD – Angelina successfully prosecuted a defendant a trial for one offence of outraging public decency. The defendant was seen by members of the public masturbating in the street nearby to a primary school. The defendant was convicted after trial in the magistrates court and committed to the crown court for sentence.
